Mullion 'wildspace' signage

Mullion Wildspace.

A collaborative project with Natural England and two other designers for the local community of Mullion, Cornwall and the pupils of Mullion Primary School. We branded, designed and manufactured the interactive interpretation signage for their new wildlife garden, creating an outdoor classroom where children of all ages could explore and learn.

We wanted to give the children ownership of the space, so we feature their drawings heavily throughout the signage. The children also named each of the habitat areas.
Habitat areas.
The garden was split into six themed areas, providing a variety of habitats for different wildlife. The signs shown here are for two of the habitats.
This chalkboard creates a platform where information about the garden can be updated on a daily and seasonal basis. It provides a teaching resource and encourages children to document what they see.
Main entrance and seating areas.
The entrance sign identifies each of the six habitat areas with a species and colour. The wooden mushroom statues give a quick reference for the key species that can be spotted in each area, and the log seating encourage children to match animals to their tracks.
We used natural materials wherever possible, working closely with Natural England.
